Hamaka is a new, lush and sizeable ceramics magazine – quite a rare thing – from Vancouver, Canada.
Clay, the editors tell us, ‘is a malleable material with the power to change lives, build community, inspire others, be part of memorable moments, heal emotional wounds and preserve history’.
Although very much formed by the cultural heritage of the Americas, the magazine’s mission is to illuminate the intricacies of this craft, to tell the stories of those who have chosen to master it, with a declared responsibility towards the value of natural resources. It aims to reach out not only to ceramic practitioners but to a wider craft community of makers, artists, entrepreneurs, small business owners and to regular folk with an interest.
Hamaka is refreshing and informative and we have to say that we haven't seen many indies tackle ceramics with the love, depth and production values evident here.
