Magalleria is a very rare thing, being a physical and online store almost wholly dedicated to independent magazines, based in the beautiful Georgian city of Bath in Somerset, UK.

Daniel McCabe and Susan Greenwood opened the store in 2015 and have built a vast range of magazines that runs to more than 2000 titles, including many niche, hard-to-find and out of circulation titles. A number of these are exclusive to us and the majority are available to buy in this online store.

Why specialise in independent magazines, might you ask? We believe the standard of editorial content sits above the mass market and the production quality is generally superior. The creator is likely to have expert knowledge of the subject area and will always bring real passion to what they’re doing. If mainstream media publishing feels increasingly generic and more narrowly focused these days, you’ll find that independent publishing caters to specialised information interests much more effectively and provides a much-needed space for creative individuality and freedom of expression. We sell books too, scouted from independent presses that similarly offer fresh thinking and shared philosophies on a range of subjects.

We source magazines on as many subjects as we can from around the world, including foreign-language titles. We manage our titles more like a bookshop than a newsagent by stocking not only the current issue of a magazine but all previous issues until they are finally gone. Independent magazines are generally published less frequently which gives them a longer shelf-life and offers another chance to find something you missed.

Daniel has spent more than three decades in publishing so he knows how the industry works – who to buy from and how to move stock cost-effectively from publisher to retailer to buyer. Magalleria’s unique range is shaped by his editorial judgement, sharpened from years of working with literary publishers and managing information needs at scale. Susan’s career – from archaeology to museums to business analysis to AI coaching – enables her to understand how and why people are drawn to certain areas of information, knowledge and culture, which keeps our range relevant to those magazine readers who are in tune with the zeitgeist or want to get ahead of the curve.

So we’re experienced and reliable at what we do. When you buy online you can rely on us to package your order carefully and send it swiftly – usually same day or next day.

If you want to visit our physical store, you’ll find our spacious and airy premises located at the very heart of the city where we have thousands of magazines and books on tables and shelves on two floors – in fact they’re arranged floor to ceiling downstairs. It is indeed a ‘magazine nirvana’, as Condé Nast Traveller recently called us, so put plenty of time aside for your visit!
