émergent is that rare thing: a handsome independent magazine focused wholly on contemporary painting by both established and developing contemporary artists.

Other than the estimable Turps Banana we haven't had much to offer serious painters before now. Established in 2018 émergent is built primarily around the interview format but provides career-to-date summaries, essays and articles. It seeks to give relatively equal weight to the artists under scrutiny to investigate more closely the manifestos and processes of painting practitioners from the around the world.
