Do You Speak Flower? by Alexandra Midal explores the intersection of flowers and steganography – that is, the art of concealing secret information within images, messages or objects.
Unlike cryptography, which hides meaning through encryption, steganography hides the very existence of a secret. In this essay, curator and author Alexandra Midal examines covert communication methods used by designers, artists, and revolutionaries, revealing hidden messages within the romantic symbolism of floriography.
Her book features case studies across design, art, and architecture and was devised to accompany the 28th Biennial of Design, BIO28 Double Agent: 'Do You Speak Flower?', held in Ljubljana in 2024-2025.
