Although generously threaded with art and fashion strands, Youthies is essentially a photography magazine.
In recent years we've found the concept of the photography magazine increasingly blurred, with very satisfying examples of the genre turning up in all sorts of places in travel and cookery for example rather than being limited to the art shelves. Like Italy's Bad Blood, new French mag Youthies operates in the stranger creative hinterlands of youth culture; indeed 'youth' itself is the central fixation of the magazine, something 'considered in the past as a stage of life to get through and later on elevated to an ideal'. Thus we can get a purely aesthetic contemplation of this community free of historical or sociological contextualisation. Well worth a look, and one to watch.
