Performance artist Vanessa Beecroft (b.1969) is best known for her large-scale, regimentally choreographed performances and ‘tableaux vivants’ involving naked or near-naked women. In the 2010s she was a frequent collaborator with Kanye West, serving as creative lead for his "Runaway" music video and designing the first four presentations of his Yeezy collection. In Jane Bleibt Jane Beecroft reflects on her career thus far through six in-depth conversations.
These offer spectacular insights into her often monumental choreographies in museums, opera houses and concept spaces, accompanied exclusively by old interviews in which Beecroft talks about the concept, preferences, inspirations, organisation and execution of her installations. The appendix is limited to detailed image captions, short biographies and a list of exhibitions. The book is edited by Chris Kraus, with text by Vanessa Beecroft and a conversation with Kraus, Miltos Manetas, Jeffrey Deitch, Donatien Grau, Hamza Walker, Stacey McKenzie and Vanessa Place.
