A kind of satirical current affairs, cultural and literary magazine, London-based The Fence looks sort of plain on the surface.
As a newish magazine it's finding its way and still fitting out the editorial architecture. A loose comparison with Private Eye would not be unfair, particularly with its air of publish-and-be-damned, but with a more extended publication schedule The Fence can afford to more intellectually curious and stylistically ambitious. A focus beyond London might broaden the appeal in future but for now we reckon it's worth a good look.
