Europe has a long tradition of collective and public housing but affordable housing has become increasingly scarce across the continent. The 1st European Collective Housing Award is an initiative to promote collective housing as a distinctive feature of European identity and the European welfare state. It celebrates excellence in collective housing developments across this region and the efforts of all those involved, from architects and designers to developers, institutions and residents. This book compiles the results of the Award.
The 1st European Collective Housing Award was launched in 2024 by the Basque Architecture Institute / EAI (Donostia-San Sebastián) and arc en rêve centre d’architecture (Bordeaux). Entries for this second edition of the book were judged by an international jury chaired by Carme Pinós, along with leading figures from architecture, sociology and journalism. The jury selected 9 finalist projects from submissions received across 36 European countries – a huge leap from the 19 countries represented in 2024.
