For this sixteenth title in the exquisitely printed and highly collectable Des oiseaux collection the Brazilian photographer Sebastião Salgado has drawn from his archives a selection of exceptional images celebrating a world populated exclusively by albatrosses, eagles, parrots, gannets and other rare species.
For over thirty years Salgado has been photographing, on land and at sea, in the most remote regions of the world, from the Amazon, Asia and Africa to the icy spaces of Antarctica. More than half of the photographs are previously unpublished, and the book is a veritable ode to the beauty of our planet.
The images are accompanied by a text from Érik Orsenna which evokes our close ties with the world of birds, as well as an interview between Salgado and Philippe Séclier, co-director of the Des oiseaux collection.
