Although it follows a different remit, Safar magazine from Beirut goes some way to providing a window on the cultural vitality of the Middle East we used to get from the much-missed Brown Book.
Taking its name from the arabic word for travel, Safar is a biannual that focuses more specifically on visual art and graphic design, an area that the magazine's founders believe is poorly reported. Bold and colourful, Safar looks back to the creative past as much as the present as well as stepping over conventional boundaries because there is so much to document.
