The 'Retratos' collection from Arquitectura Viva is a series of biographical sketches of the leading exponents of contemporary architecture. They contain in-depth interviews, reviews and analyses of major building works, accompanied by drawings by the architects themselves.
About the Professor Moneo volume from the publisher:
The sixteen articles included here, published over the past three decades, run through the fertile career of Rafael Moneo. Preceded by a brief biography that will help the reader situate in his trajectory the various buildings mentioned, the sequence of texts begins with what was the prologue to the monograph on his work that AV published in 1992, and closes with two of the architect’s own reflections on his intellectual journey and the evolution of his oeuvre. The remaining articles tackle in detail projects like the Pilar and Joan Miró Foundation, the Illa of Barcelona, the annex to Murcia City Hall, the Kursaal of San Sebastián, the Cathedral of Los Angeles, or the Bank of Spain in Madrid, and use Moneo’s academic facet to point out lessons inherent in each of his buildings, from the Bankinter main offices or the museum in Mérida, which he himself has explained in articles and books, being as he is, above all, a professor.
Over the course of a fruitful career as critic of the newspaper El País and visible head of the magazines AV and Arquitectura Viva, Luis Fernández-Galiano has written on architecture and many other things. A rich sampling of his articles has now been grouped by themes in four series of nine booklets, together offering a vivid chronicle of architecture in the past decades.
