Makoto Wada: Works on Film is a book showcasing a comprehensive collection of film posters by Wada (1936–2019), regarded as one of Japan’s leading graphic designers and illustrators.
Throughout a long career Wada was drawn to cinema for creative inspiration. As a young designer he tried his hand at creating movie posters and animated films, and his charming style soon gained widespread acclaim. Wada ended up producing countless illustrations of international film figures along with a series of books and dialogues on movies. His passion became a force in Japanese cinema, leading him to direct four feature-length films of his own. This vast collection of movie and cinema posters accompanies the exhibition ‘Makoto Wada: Works on Film’ at the National Film Archive of Japan Gallery.
