Hand Colouring is a dinky concertina-type book (Leporello) that displays a selection of Lukas Birk’s hand-coloured photographs and provides simple tips on how to create your own hand-coloured images with oil, crayon or water colours.
The author, an Austrian travelling artist, archivist and storyteller, says, 'There is much to be said about the colourful beauty and imagination applied to monochrome images. There is a constant shift from pictorial painterly emotions to photographic precision. The paint adds a layer of imagination, an almost dream-like state.'
