Logo in Real Life is a book by designer/researcher Michele Galluzzo that takes a critical and historical look at evolution of the logo. It’s an examination that unfolds as the untold social history of logos: where they start living In ‘Real Life’, moving away from corporate identity manuals and brand guidelines to where we encounter them day to day in memes, counterfeits, protests, fashion, pop culture and counterculture. Should we come to another understanding of logos?
The book both archives and studies this informal circulation and dives into the consequences to present a different story: one that is conceived through public consumption, use, re-use and re-appropriation of logos which are discussed in a new guise: not as intact objects resulting from the genius of professionals and creatives, but as liquid form.
Logo IRL reframes the narrative in which graphic design icons are ‘open works’ and considers how the public participates in the evolution of the life of brands and graphic design.
