The Joyful Guides are an innovative new series of guide books from newcomer Sundae Press that highlight places to seek out when you're travelling in south west of the UK.
It's not an exhaustive list of enterprises, but an attempt more to uncover creative, thoughtful and environmentally-aware businesses away from the disposable and quickly out-of-date guidebook model. The guides themselves are colourful and collectable print beauties, so if you're thinking of exploring our corner of the country, we'd suggest that you explore these too.
The first guide in the series picks out the region's best breakfasts, recipes and stories. It comes with a fold-out risograph map and a bookmark for your breakfast reading. As the publisher says, 'It all starts with breakfast. The first ritual of the day is about more than tea and toast crumbs. It's about starting as you mean to go on.' It's a celebration of the art of breakfasting. It won't only whet your appetite but feed your mind as well.
The second guide, Mini Adventures, is all about capturing the spirit of a holiday: escapism, indulgence and discovery. It aims to be a practical yet colourful introduction to little trips that leave a big impression. It features: 50 best places to stay in the south-west, woodland, coastal, wetland, historical and foodie adventures, five illustrated hiking maps and four postcards.
