Fromages is a collection of 200 drawings of cheese by Jochen Gerner, following on from his Oiseaux (2021) and Dogs (2023) series. They showcase an infinite variety of cheeses, textures, aromas and flavours, rendered with remarkable technical skill and great sensitivity. They were created between March 2025 and April 2026 and follow the artist's culinary and geographical wanderings.
Gerner's cheese images are created with pigmented India ink markers on school notebooks and represent something of a new graphic experiment. From Roquefort to farmhouse Munster, including Tomme de Savoie, Époisses, Brie Noir, Comté, Brousse du Rove, Chevrotin des Aravis, aged Cantal and even Babybel, the wide variety of cheeses the artist depicts offer as many possibilities for exploring reliefs, textures, and shapes as allowed by the grid on which they are created, the layering of lines and the combination of colours.
