Houses is a short artist’s book by Swedish artist Andreas Samuelsson. Working with cut paper collage mixed with watercolor and computer graphics in sharp colours, his ideas tend to turn into geometric forms, stylistic symbols and handwritten letters. His output has appeared variously in The New York Times, Spiegel and Forbes, and for brands including Nike, Apple, Volvo and Aesop.
Of this book he says, ‘Over time, I have collected shapes – in this case all in the form of houses. I study their details closely: the tilt of a roof, the rhythm of windows, subtle shifts in proportion. My fascination with unique structures is endless, whether it’s a simple shed or a complex architectural form I hadn’t considered before. Communicating through built forms has become central to my practice. A house can carry memories, emotions, and ideas all at once – offering space for the viewer’s own interpretation. Houses have always fascinated me. Both a mental house and a physical one. A thought about a shell that gathers together what is contained in a life.’
