Granta is one of the oldest and most prestigious literary magazines of new writing. Its mission is to publish the best in new literary fiction, memoir, reportage and poetry from around the world.
With a belief in the power of stories to 'describe, illuminate and make real' it has been described by The Observer as having 'its face pressed firmly against the window, determined to witness the world'.
Originally founded in 1889 by Cambridge University students, it formally evolved into the literary quarterly it is today in 1979. Each issue is based around a different theme, such as an aspect of the way we live now or simply a place. Articles are compiled together with contemporary art and photography into a pleasingly tactile and smallish paperback publication.
