FORGOTTEN LANDS is a magazine founded in 2017 by Cory Torres Bishop and Don Brodie in direct response to the devastating hurricanes Irma and Maria. It began as a benefit exhibition and soon expanded to a multi-disciplinary platform encompassing the production of art books, magazines, films and more.
FORGOTTEN LANDS aims to highlight the contemporary Caribbean art scene, showcasing emerging artists and launching the careers of aspiring talents throughout the diaspora, seeking out the many overlooked stories of the Caribbean while interconnecting and highlighting the region’s unique history.
About Volume 7, 'The Politics of Architecture' from the publishers:
Inspired by cultural theorists Sylvia Wynter and June Jordan, we seek to expand the concept of “architecture” beyond its conventional meaning to survey the physical, psychological, and cultural structures that reflect the world we wish to create or represent.
Within Volume 07, we delve into the connections between the body, memory, philosophy, aesthetics, and design throughout the Caribbean and the diaspora. Topics such as ecological degradation, cultural erasure, and genealogy are open for exploration within the context of speculative design and applied architecture.
Reflecting on the question: What can we learn from revolutionary Caribbean leaders, and how can they inspire us to improve the environments we inhabit daily? Artists and thinkers are welcome to engage with themes of rebellion, desire, and sovereignty that weave radical traditions into the built environment.
