Becoming Pictures is a travelogue that mixes portraiture and text to reveal both a magazine’s journey and the author’s own personal history.
Canadian photographer Shawn Dogimont uses his images to prompt him to write an essay, along with musings that can be read in no particular order but when read together they form a story.
Often these passages relate directly to the images facing them and encounters with dogs, bears, trees, friends, fashion models and actors. Adam Driver, Jeff Bridges, Léa Seydoux, Tilda Swinton and Isabelle Huppert and others are recounted in a concise, conversational style although Dogiment's wandering prose and images often work out of tandem.
Becoming Pictures is a very different type of photography book.
