Afrosonica is a reflection on African and Afro-diasporic sound. It is a book published in collaboration with the Museum of Ethnography in Geneva to coincide the eponymous exhibition at the Museum in 2025/26, while Afrosonica – Soundscapes is available on vinyl and CD.
The project brings together artists, scholars, and musicians to deconstruct Western-centric discourses and approaches to museology and ethnomusicology, while exploring inclusive and renegotiated ways to intersect heritage, technology and futurism. Through in-depth conversations, essays, photographs and artworks, Afrosonica invites further investigation into the Afro-diasporic traces found in various musical phenomena across the globe. It encourages a critical rethinking of how we make sense of these traces through power-balanced and decentralised narratives.
