Wax Poetics is a highly collectable US music quarterly founded by vinyl freaks in New York who couldn't find any publishing aimed at serious crate-diggers of jazz, funk, soul, Latin, hip-hop, reggae, blues and R&B.
The magazine is written entirely by freelancers who focus on the cultural framework of roots music and its evolution and development of hip hop and other new genres. it's now been around 15 odd years and has expanded its operations to include a record and clothing label, a book publishing imprint, an online music store and, perhaps inevitably, Wax Poetics Japan.
After a few years of dormancy, the magazine kicked off again in 2019 with a special collector's edition focused on the past and present London jazz scene but appearances remain very occasional, so bag a copy when they're in.
