Kinfolk Magazine is a landmark lifestyle quarterly hailing from from Copenhagen, and not Portland, as appearances might suggest.
It is, however, assembled by an impressive international cast that contributes quality journalism, interviews, essays, stories, photography and illustration along themes of home, work and play – basically 'slow living' aimed at demographic heavily populated by young professionals.
Founded by two couples (Nathan Williams and Katie Searle-Williams, and Doug and Paige Bischoff), each issue of the magazine is published with a large team of staffers and contributors. There have been half a dozen or more Kinfolk books released in the last few years.
Kinfolk magazine has been much imitated over the past couple of years and occasionally seems over-familiar – for a while the magazine bore the brunt of jibes in a backlash against 'hipsters' and we see a dip in sales at Magalleria around 2016 or so. But we've never stopped rating Kinfolk and it appears much refreshed of late and has roared back to the extent where, now, we can never supply enough copies.
