MacGuffin Magazine is a playful design and crafts magazine with a Hitchcockian name. That tells you already that this is an unusual design magazine, and we love it.
MacGuffin tracks the life of everyday, often anonymously designed things. There's no better summary of the magazine's aim than this one by Kirsten Algera, co-creator of the magazine with Ernst van der Hoeven. She says they wanted to make a magazine that could offer an alternative approach to describing design, using objects as plot devices, like the MacGuffins in Hitchcock films. We imagined that each magazine would be in the geostationary orbit of an object, using that object as a starting point to explore the stories (historical, cultural, political, visual, etc) it generates.
