Serge Gainsbourg’s Paris is a map and guide to the city of the late singer, songwriter and actor, from his birth at L’Hôtel-Dieu de Paris in April 1928, to his final resting place at Cimitière du Montparnasse.
Along the way, this guide visits the residences, bars, studios, nightclubs and many scenes of scandal, debauchery and great art that mark Gainsbourg’s life. At the time of his death in 1991 Gainsbourg was perhaps best known outside France for the song Je t'aime moi non plus and his relationship with the English singer and actress Jane Birkin, yet his influence and profile is greater today than at any time, and his home is now a museum.
