Mission Neighbourhood – (Re)forming Communities is a new study that offers new insight into how to form more sustainable, diverse and meaningful neighbourhoods. It aims to redefine the discourse on urban development and community building, serving as a source of inspiration for architects, urban planners, policymakers and individuals passionate about creating thriving, inclusive community environments.
The neighbourhood is a fundamental physical and social horizon for human life. Yet the intricate mix of relations that makes up a neighbourhood is rarely given the attention it deserves in policy-making or urban planning. Mission Neighbourhood contains 35 contributions from acclaimed architects, academics, civil servants and developers from the Nordics and beyond.
Edited by Christian Pagh and Thomas Cook, the book explores the urgent, urban issues of our time – from social infrastructure, nature and biodiversity, to mobility and urban governance – from a neighbourhood perspective. Aiming to inspire action, the book offers a variety of best practice projects, perspectives and hands-on advice.
Contributors include Jos Boys, Cobe, Camilla van Deurs, EFFEKT, Jan Gehl, Dan Hill, Indy Johar, Carlos Moreno, Juhani Pallasmaa, Kate Raworth, Martha Thorne, Finn Williams and many others.
