John Hilliard (born 1945) is a British conceptual artist whose work is considered to expose photography’s inherent possibilities and flaws, while in turn enabling him to create his own striking imagery.
Hilliard utilises every means offered by the medium: double exposure, multiple points of view, changing perspectives, blow-ups, cut-outs, sequencing, superpositions, and much more to explore what an image reveals about the world and to what extent the apparatus itself will determine the meaning. Accident and Design surveys more recent work, with selected earlier pieces included to show an overall scheme of artistic themes and issues.
