New York Living Rooms was first published in 1998 and the first in a trio of now famous interior photography works by Dominique Nabokov (the others being New York Living Rooms and Berlin Living Rooms).
Re-issued by Apartamento Publishing, New York Living Rooms was commissioned as a photo essay for the New Yorker in 1995, taking in the lounging spaces of eighteen city celebrities including the Reverend Al Sharpton, writer Susan Sontag, artist Louise Bourgeois, fashion designer Diane von Furstenberg, decorator Mario Buatta and porn star Robyn Byrd. Later expanded to 83 rooms for the 1998 edition it offers a frank and intimate study of these rooms, presented here as 'portraits' rather than staged interior decoration shoots.
