You spin me right round is a new book from Ireland in which some of the best writers at work today reflect on what music has meant to them at different moments in their lives.
It provides a collection of essays that take the core elements of music – songs, performances, albums, gigs – as points of departure, travelling on through many material artefacts of gigs and performance such as torn ticket stubs, creased flyers, worsted wristbands, the things that might that slip out from the inside of a book or the back of drawer, or that appear crumpled in the pocket of an old coat.
In this way, You spin me right round is a compilation of totems, a distillation of ineffable musical experiences that underline the pulling power of live music.
Contribiuting writers are Ciaran Carson, Brian Dillon, Peter Geoghegan, Colin Graham, Wendy Erskine, Aingeala Flannery, M. John Harrison, Tabitha Lasley, Declan Long, McKenzie Wark, Sydney Weinberg and Jayne A. Quan.
