Zohar Studios is the first monograph devoted to the work of Stephen Berkman, an American photographer who resurrects forgotten 19th-century techniques to explore the uncanny strangeness of early photography.
Berkman employs historical equipment and processes such as tintypes and wet collodion to creates haunting narrative images and portraits that blur the line between fact and fiction, history and imagination. In addition to his artistic practice, Berkman produces 'vintage' photographs in his Los Angeles laboratory for major Hollywood period films.
With a preface by Martin Scorsese.
