The Sm;)e Book by DJ D B Burkeman and artist Rich Browd collects a multitude of visual interpretations of the Smiley symbol by artists such as Jeremy Deller, Banksy, the Chapman Brothers, Norman Cook and others.
The book traces the symbol’s story in detail from its inception as a morale-booster for staff at an insurance company in 1963, and popping up everywhere since, from Hollywood films and TV shows such as Dazed and Confused and The X-Files, to album covers such as Nirvana’s Nevermind and graphic novels such as Watchmen.
