Saunter is a bilingual (Japanese/English) documentary-style food and travel magazine that provides a bird’s eye view of the world from a remote island designated as a World Heritage Site.
The island in question is Yakushima, a subtropical island off the southern coast of Kyushu and part of Kagoshima Prefecture. The magazine is published by Kilty Inc., the 'the only publisher on Yakushima' (population around 13,000). As well as its own environment, the fourth issue of Saunter visits Okinawa, Unzen, the Northern Alps in Japan, India, Nepal and Bali. The premise is to introduce us to communities who express the benefits of the land they live on through their diet and cuisine.
