The French fauvist Raoul Dufy (1877–1953) was also a textile designer.
This gorgeous, deluxe and very-well priced book from Japanese publisher Seigensha explores this aspect of his work through the paintings and designs he created for textile patterns and silk fabrics manufactured by Bianchini-Férier from 1912 to 1918 and used by early 20th-century haute couture designers such as Paul Poiret. The images here are collected and reproduced from works from collections throughout Japan and effectively showcase the artist’s many themes – the sea, music, flowers, insects and pure geometric forms.
