Kyoto Journal is an English language cultural magazine based (of course) in Kyoto, Japan. In the time we've been stocking it we've come to regard it as one of the finest publications in our range in terms of outreach, information and design – all achieved on a largely volunteer-driven basis.
The journal is subtitled 'Perspectives from Asia' which alludes to its editorial mission to highlight activity – artistic, cultural, spiritual, craft-based, culinary and more – beyond Japan, which it achieves with a community of writers stationed across the Asian region. Founded in 1986 by John Einarson, the journal ran for 75 issues before moving to a digital edition in 2010. Seven years later the journal returned to print (issue no. 89) and it is our intention to regularly keep stock of this later sequence at Magalleria.
