Hello Mr. has given us a sequence of covers featuring a single portrait sitter wearing an enigmatic gaze. It's a fair indication that Hello Mr. is not a typical gay magazine.
Although it’s not overtly sexualised or as explicit as better known names in the genre and it’s not obsessed with grooming or lifestyle accessories (there’s no advertising) it’s less concerned with breaking down stereotypes than unpacking authentic notions about gay culture in the 21st century. Crisply designed, Hello Mr.’s nicely-judged mix of interview, essay, reportage, illuminating confessional, illustration and photography is almost in out on its own bringing something distinctly fresh to the gay lifestyle magazine.
A pity then that Issue 10 is this landmark magazine's final outing.
