This thought-provoking art magazine was first published as Esperanto Culture Magazine in 2020 as a platform for ‘Whole Earth Citizens’ to promote the concept of contemporary culture as an international language, à la Esperanto.
Initially referencing the 1985 Ryuichi Sakamoto album of the same name it is now changed to ESP Cultural Magazine (Extra Sensorial Print for Extra Sensorial People), alluding both to the idea of a ‘sixth sense’ and the landmark 1965 album ESP by Miles Davis. Designed by Amsterdam-based design studio Experimental Jet Set, this issue explores the art world during the pandemic through the notion of the ‘glitch’ as a positive and liberating force for art in a ‘rigid aristocratic system in which art has traditionally been market-driven and US-centric.’ It asks who is art for nowadays, and how has the pandemic shaken the old order?
This issue contains essays, reviews, and special features by Marina Abramović, Olafur Eliasson, Michael Xufu Huang, Manthia Diawara, and Hans Ulrich Obrist.
