Average Human Heart is a book by Australian avant garde composer and improviser Ross Bolleter, inspired by Eduardo Galeano's The Book of Embraces and Jorge Luis Borges's Ficcione.
Bolleter's book offers more than 100 vignettes or 'left hand stories' primarily on music and musical experimentation. Bolleter (b.1946) is renowned for his projects with old pianos abandoned and exposed to the impact of age and weather (even classifying them into different categories: neglected, abandoned, weathered, decayed, ruined, devastated, decomposed, annihilated), thus acquiring novel and unexpected musical possibilities. His recordings are published by the Emanem and WARPS (World Association for Ruined Piano Studies) labels. In 2021, he released the great Total Piano on Thödol Records.
