A Thing on a Table in a House is an almost unclassifiable project: a 68-page board book printed and die-cut to mimic the contours and colours used in the anthropomorphic steel sculptures of Serban Ionescu, a New York-based, Romanian-born artist.
It is in fact a sculpture itself, one that that explores a fine line between furniture and sculpture. It also functions as a drama in three acts by Ionescu’s fellow artist and friend James English Leary, who embraces Ionescu's artistic approach to explore the sculptor's ideas in an absurd series of events that employs cast of bizarre characters including Happy Lattice, Dog Bench Loaf and Assembled Chair.
