Pacifico Silano is an American conceptual artist who appropriates and utilises fragments of gay pornography and gay cultural ephemera to create original works that, if warm and faintly nostalgic, feel incomplete – effectively commenting on loss, longing and queer melancholy, with particular relation to HIV/AIDS.
I Wish I Never Saw the Sunshine is his first book, published in an accordion-folded format that references Silano’s photo-based installations, being constructed of two twenty-panel long sequences that can be read as both one continuous collage and a sequence of individual images.
The book also includes an interview with the artist by José Diaz, Chief Curator of The Andy Warhol Museum.
40 pages, 40 colour plates, 200mm × 250mm, trimmed hardcover with continuous leporello binding.
